Project 10 – Making the cut.

November 20th, 2010

Early in the year, 500 club chairman, Steve was working down the ground when he looked out the window and saw the groundsman down on his knees with a pair of scissors in his hand. It was early on a Sunday morning and when asked what he was up to, the Groundsman replied, “I’ve got [...]

Project 11 – Frost Covers

November 20th, 2010

In January 2010, we saw the cancellation of many Football League and even Premiership games with temperatures in the UK dropping to extreme freezing conditions of -15 to -20 degrees in places overnight. Pitches were completely frozen and totally unplayable. Whilst we were all aware that this seemed a severe batch of extreme weather, the [...]

The Football Management Team approached the 500 Club, asking if we could supply the training ground with a pair of rowing machines, as training equipment at Seasons was of a poor quality or out dated. This we believed to be beneficial to the fitness of the players, and agreed to the purchase of 2 machines [...]

Over the last 12 months the membership of the 500 Club had grown in size. After a letter campaign we had reached a membership of around 560, we had never had so much money in our account and in fairness we had no real projects in the pipe line. We all know that money at [...]

This project was the first time the 500 Club had invested outside of the ground. The boiler in the kitchen which the Bar staff used to do the washing up of all the beer glasses, finally succumbed and exploded. The Club pleaded with us to see whether we could supply a new boiler as money [...]

We now had generated enough money to complete the next stage of updating the PA system. 4 new amplifiers were purchased at a cost of £ 1,525 and installed, which now helps generate a decent crisp tone and volume level in the In2Print, Carlsberg, and C&G Stands. There is still one more part of the [...]

Project 5 – can you hear me…

February 25th, 2006

Hearing supporters continually moan about the poor PA sytem we had around the ground, it was time for the 500 Club to sort the problem out. We certainly didnt have the money to sort out the entire system in one go, but at least we were to be seen in trying to sort it out. [...]

The F.A.Cup game against Newcastle United was to be shown live on the television. With a frost forecast the BBC supplied frost sheets to make sure the game went ahead, however they were 6 sheets short and had to hire them from a local company. After the game the 500 Club contacted the company who [...]

Having spent over £15,000 on our first 2 projects it was to be 18 months later before the 500 Club had enough money in the account to contribute in helping the Club, and this was to be a very important investment. The Club with their investment and with the help of a Football League grant, [...]

The next project was to see a substantial £10,000 contribution to the construction of the away turnstiles to comply with the regulations of the Football League. When ever someone goes through the turnstile it automatically registers their entry into the ground, via a link to the security tower.
